 A life of yum

My earliest memory of food is from when I was about 3 or 4 and I went blackberry picking with my mum and my younger sister. The concept of picking blackberries for later was almost too much for me to understand I wanted to eat all of them right then and there! When we eventually had enough for mum to be happy we went back home - where mum turned my precious blackberries into an apple and blackberry crumble. I was furious that she had cooked my hard earned blackberries, until I tried the warm crumble with cold cream... it was heaven, and remains one of my favourite dishes to this day. From then on my adventures just continued, from trying my first avocado and snails in France on a family holiday, to sampling the quails and sushi mum served to dinner guests, whipping coffee with dad and living in Thailand for a year.. food is my favourite thing.

I come from a multi-cultural household where we always had lots of different food around the table, and I have learned to appreciate food not just for it's value to my tastebuds, but also for it's potential to bring people together, for it's cultural significance and as an opportunity to share with others. From a good Sunday roast with my grandparents, to Ajiaco with my extended family in Colombia, food brings back incredible memories of people and places.
